The first analyses of the second report on the performance of the Italian long-distance bus market carried out by the Transport Policy Laboratory TRASPOL of the Polytechnic University of Milan and CheckMyBus report an upward price trend in the last months of 2016. The sector confirms continued supply-side dynamism that is driving a marked shift in long-distance bus services.
The latest market monitoring shows an evolving price dynamic, as the value weighted on the number of tickets sought increased from 0.044 €/km in the first half of the year to 0.054 €/km in the second half. The monthly trend shows an increase between spring and winter 2016 of about 50 %.
The lower values of the average price in the spring period are partly attributable to the numerous launch offers following the activation of new services. Consequently, the price increase in the last months of the year is partly due to the end of promotional periods suggesting a possible stabilization of average prices at a higher price.
Paolo Beria prof. at Milan Polytechnic's TRASPOL Transportation Policy Laboratory says, "the report on the Italian long-distance bus market trend shows an upward trend in prices, a sign of a first phase of market stabilization that nevertheless retains its dynamism."
The report produced by TRASPOL in cooperation with CheckMyBus will be published by the beginning of March and will be available on the respective websites of TRASPOL and CheckMyBus. To receive the report, please feel free to contact the persons responsible below.
